Modeled
after the national Adopt-A-Highway program, the URI
Adopt-A-Walkway program works buy giving all students,
faculty and staff the opportunity to keep campus walkways
litter-free. All you have to do is choose a walkway
and sign a pledge volunteering to keep it clean. A recognition
sign with your's group's name will be installed along
your walkway.
All
URI groups, including student organizations, residence
halls, URI 101, fraternities, sororities, academic majors
and employees working in every building on campus are
welcome to participate. Your members can volunteer to
pick up litter everyday, or you can volunteer together
as a group once a week.You get the satisfaction of keeping
URI clean and beautiful,with a recognition sign for
everyone to see, and URI receives the benefit of your
energy and enthusiasm.
PROGRAM
FEATURES:
- Adopting
group or organizations must make formal application
with URI Recycling.
- Adopting
groups agree to pick up all litter along their walkways,including
the immediately surrounding landscape.
- Trash/Recycling
bags will be provided by URI Recycling.
- Recognition
signs will be installed by Facilities Services.
- Non-recycable
litter can be brought to a nearby dumpster.Recycable
litter can be placed in a recycling container next
to that dumpster. Please try to keep walkway containers
available for general use.
- Adoptions
are for the current academic year only. Reapplication
must be submitted at the beginning of each academic
year.
- Groups
or organizations failing to meet their commitment
will be dropped from the program and the area reassigned.
