What can be recycled at URI?

At the University of Rhode Island, we collect our recyclable materials in two streams, each identified by a color;


GREEN for PAPER

BLUE for CANS & BOTTLES


Paper

Paper: White paper, fax paper, colored paper, computer paper, newspaper,
Post-It notes, manila paper (file holders, etc.), paper bags, packing paper

Mail, etc. : magazines (glossy paper, etc.) catalogues, junk mail, envelopes
(plastic windows, too!)

Books, etc. : telephone books, paperback books, notebooks (metal spirals, too!),
hardcover books (must remove covers).

Thin Cardboard, etc. : paperboard (cereal boxes, tissue boxes, etc.)

*paper clips, staples, and binder clips are acceptable.
*no pizza boxes

 

Cans & Bottles

Glass: unbroken clear, green, and brown glass.

Plastics: look on the bottom for the number in the triangle

#1 PETE plastics (water bottle, soda bottle,etc.)

#2 HDPE plastic (milk jugs, etc.)

Aluminum, Steel, etc. : aluminum (soda cans, etc.), steel
(empty aerosol cans, etc.),
tin cans.

Drink Cartons: juice boxes, milk cartons.

 

Corrugated Cardboard

Special dumpters for flattened corrugated cardboard are located throughout campus.

 

Inkjet and Toner Cartridges

Call 401-874-2840 for pick up.

 

Alkaline and Button Batteries

Look for battery recycling buckets or call for 401-874-2840 for pick up.

 

Fluorescent light bulbs

See your custodial staff.

 

Office Cleanouts

Call 401-874-2840 for extra containers.

 

Non Recyclables

No Styrofoam
No garbage bags
No wax paper
No plastics numbered #3 - #7
No unlabeled plastic (i.e. no number in a triangle on the bottom)
No ceramics
No plexiglas
No broken glass
No greasy or food-soiled items
No pizza boxes
