President's Council on Sustainability
Total green house gases (GHG) emissions shown for all four URI campuses during fiscal year (FY) 1996-2007 were determined using the Clean Air-Cool Planet (CA-CP) Campus Carbon Calculator v5.0. Results are expressed in units of metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) equivalents (MTCDE).
Data in the pie chart are from FY2007 and indicate that primary eCO2 emissions were from purchased electricity (45%), on-campus stationary generated from the steam plant (24%), and estimated transportation associated with daily commuting* (28%); also, minor eCO2 emissions resulted from solid waste (3%). The bar chart indicates a similar source distribution of eCO2 from FY1996 to FY2007, with total emissions increasing by approximately 20% over this duration.

*Estimated eCO2 emissions from commuting were based on annual parking data, approximate commuting distance, and average vehicle fuel consumption; results were in reasonable agreement with an independent URI commuter survey conducted in 2006.
