Founded in the late 1800’s, the
University of Rhode Island celebrates a rich tradition of promoting lifelong
learning, leadership and service. These values are found in all
areas of our community, in the curriculum, in the residence halls,
and in co-curricular activities. Our students graduate with a
well-rounded education and extensive training in their major. They
have the chance to work with, and learn from, some of the best
faculty who are experts in their disciplines.
With more than 80 majors to
choose from in URI's seven degree granting colleges, students have
the opportunity to study
Arts and
Sciences,
Business Administration,
Engineering,
Environmental and Life Sciences,
Human
Science & Services,
Nursing, Pharmacy,,and
University College
-- a community of learners.
Our professors are committed to
teaching, and they provide students with a unique and interactive
learning environment -- faculty like Ying Sun, professor of
biomedical engineering, who encourages his students to parlay their
classroom learning to solve real life issues and challenges. One of
his students has developed a unique switch and arm brace for a
child’s wheelchair to help with the operation of a voice output
device to assist in communication.
Assistant Professor of
Education, Anne Seitsinger and four of her seniors studying
elementary education, for example, recently presented a session on
Service Learning and Parent Involvement in Math Education, at
the annual meeting of the Association of Teachers of Math in New
England. Their presentation focused on collaborative service
learning projects created by the seniors for their class in Math
Methods in Elementary Teaching.
With more than 90 student
organizations on campus, including 19 Division I level sports,
numerous internships to complement classroom learning, URI students
are busy, industrious, and passionate about all of their endeavors! |
