Financal Documents

Filling out the Certificate of Financial Responsibility is NOT part of the application process.  AFTER an international student has received a letter of acceptance, the student must show that they possess funds for their first year at the University.  Information about these documents can be found at the International Students and Scholars website. 

Financial Aid

URI does not offer federal financial aid to international students. The Institute of International Education, 809 United Nations Plaza, New York, NY 10017, or the US Embassy or Consulate may be able to provide information about sources of monetary aid. Applicants from Africa (sub-Sahara) may get their credentials evaluated at the following African-American Institute offices: Accra, Ghana, PO Box 2192; Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania. PO Box 2995; Lagos, Nigeria, PMB 2382; Lusaka, Zambia, PO Box 1631; Abidjan, Ivory Coast, BP 20894. Latin American applicants may apply at the Organization of American States, 17th St. and Constitution Ave, NW Washington, DC 20006.

MANDATORY HEALTH SERVICE FEE FOR SPOUSE: $412.

Please Note:

  • Undergraduate students in residence halls should plan to bring about $500 for bedding, rugs, lamps, and so on.
  • Bank drafts clear in 4-6 weeks. Plan to bring adequate funds in travelers' checks (US dollars). This is extremely important, as no emergency funds are available to help students who run into financial difficulty.
