The ADVANCE project at the University of Rhode Island is a 5-year program funded by the National Science Foundation designed to improve and enrich the scientific, technology, engineering, and mathematic academic workforce at URI through the increased representation and participation of women faculty. URI ADVANCE is involved in recruitment efforts, faculty development, improving networks of support, and overall climate change, to the ultimate benefit of all faculty at the University of Rhode Island.
News and Events
- NEWSFLASH! Dual Career Policy and Guidelines for faculty were approved by the Administration February 2008.
- NEWSFLASH! The Rhode Island Senate passed a Senate Resolution on Feb. 28 acknowledging the work of the URI Work-Life Committee and the importance of work-life balance initiatives in the state.
- ADVANCE has received an $80,000 grant from the Elsevier Foundation to implement a Lactation Program on campus. The University's first Lactation Room is located in the ADVANCE Resource Center, 001 Carlotti Hall, and is available to all nursing mothers at URI.

- Laura Meyerson, PhD, Assistant Professor of Cell & Molecular Biology, for winning the 2008 URI Outstanding Research Award.
- Nancy Eaton, PhD, in becoming chair of the Department of Mathematics.
- Patricia Morokoff, PhD, in becoming chair of the Department of Psychology.
- Padma Venkatramen, PhD, Adjunct Professor of Oceanography and Coordinator, Graduate School Recruitment, for the publication of her first novel, " Climbing the Stairs".
- Tatiana Rynearson, URI Oceanographer awarded $850,000 grant from NSF to study the biogeography of plankton.
- Dorothy Donnolly, Professor of English, for winning the 2008 APAW Woman of the Year Award.
