The ADVANCE project at the University of Rhode Island is a 5-year program funded by the National Science Foundation designed to improve and enrich the scientific, technology, engineering, and mathematic academic workforce at URI through the increased representation and participation of women faculty. URI ADVANCE is involved in recruitment efforts, faculty development, improving networks of support, and overall climate change, to the ultimate benefit of all faculty at the University of Rhode Island.
News and Events
- UNIVERSITY OF RHODE ISLAND LACTATION POLICY: In January 2009, a formal University Lactation policy was passed for all University women. The policy was originated by the ADVANCE office and the URI Work-Life Committee. With this policy, URI acknowledges and recognizes the importance and benefits of breastfeeding for both mothers and their infants, and in promoting a family-friendly work and study environment. Comments on the policy were provided by members of the URI community.
CONGRATULATIONS TO:
- Laura Beauvais, Ph. D., Professor of Management in the College of Business Administration, for taking the role of Interim Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs at the University of Rhode Island, effective January 1, 2009.
- Winifred E. Brownell, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences & Roger A. LeBrun, Professor of Plant Sciences, for receiving the 2008 Faculty Mentor Award.This award honors a faculty member and an administrator who provide and promote conscientious, effective, faculty mentoring. The selection of Dean Brownell and Professor LeBrun is an honor as it recognizes their long-standing commitment to mentoring which drew praise from their colleagues at the university.
- Helen (He) Huang, Ph. D., Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering, for winning the 6th Delsys Prize, which was established by Carlo J. De Luca, CEO of Delsys Inc., to recognize innovation in the field of electromyography (EMG).
