ALEKS Math Placement

ALEKS is a powerful artificial-intelligence based online assessment tool that zeros in on the strengths and weaknesses of a student's mathematical knowledge, reports its findings to the student, and provides the student with an online learning module (LM) that can be used to bring this knowledge up to an appropriate level for course placement or for review with the goal of being better prepared for their first math course at URI.

 

Instructions to start placement test:

Please go to: http://www.aleks.com/

 

Select:

• "INDEPENDENT USE"
• "STUDENTS"
• "BUY ALEKS NOW"

 

To purchase, select:

• "Continuing Education - Math" from drop down menu
• "Prep for Calculus" from drop down menu
• Complete registration information and purchase Monthly Subscription for $19.95 (once you sign up, you can choose “cancel to take effect at the end of the month” otherwise you will be charged this amount on a monthly basis)

 

Once you are logged in, please read carefully and follow instructions

 

• The assessment can take up to 90 minutes.  
• Take the initial assessment and make note of the PERCENT SCORE (NOT THE NUMBER OF CORRECT ANSWERS)

You can use your ALEKS program to access the Learning Module to improve your skills on your own.  If you retake the assessment, see the guide to see if you can place into a different level course.
