Here’s What Happens at Open House:

Slide Show and Theme Tours
Enjoy an informative slide presentation on the W. Alton Jones Camp programs. Camp staff will be available following the presentation to answer questions or provide a walking tour around the main lodge and cabins and highlight the Earth Camp themes. Ongoing throughout the day.


Teen Expeditions Exhibit
Teen Expedition staff will be available to answer questions about Teen Expedition routes, equipment, food, safety, preparation, etc. On Request: groups will be taken to see the expeditions base camp at the Poor Farm or guests may walk there on their own.


Woodvale Farm Showcase
Walk (or drive your car) to the farm to see the gardens, cemetery, barn and classroom. A staff member will be available to answer questions. It is a 15-minute walk to the farm (one way) along a well-marked trail.


Teacher Tours

If you are a schoolteacher considering a field trip for your class, let any staff member know and a member of our education staff will provide a tour and answer your questions.


Van Tours of the Campus
See Woodvale Farm, Lake Eisenhower, the Nettie Marie Jones Nature Preserve, the Environmental Research Area and the Whispering Pines Conference Center and learn about the history of the Campus. Van tours will be ongoing throughout the day.


Guided Trail Walks
Join one of our staff naturalists for a nature walk on the W. Alton Jones Campus trails. Walks last 45 to 60 minutes on easy terrain. Portions of some trails may be wet. Walks begin at 11:00 AM, 12:00 noon, 1:00 PM, 2:00 PM, and 3:00 PM.


Free Food!
Food and beverages will be available throughout the day in the main hall.


Eisenhower Photo Exhibit
In the main hall, there will be a display of photographs from President Eisenhower's visits to the property. Photographs were acquired courtesy of the Eisenhower Library in Kansas. A written itinerary of the President's visits will also be available.


Registration and Information Table
Questions can be answered and camp registrations will be taken throughout the day in the main hall. Be aware that some programs fill up before Open House!
