Woodvale Farm Day Camp
Weekly Themes

Each week will include the basic Woodvale Farm Day Camp activities along with a weekly theme.

Week 1: Olden Days.  Try some old-fashioned methods of doing farm work, such as wool carding and maple sugaring.  On Friday there will be a maple syrup taste-test comparing the real thing with the store bought kind.

Week 2: Cooking.  Each group this week will get a chance to cook a different recipe, and during Friday’s Farm Carnival there will be a taste-test with each group’s recipe out to try.

Week 3: Patriotic. During the week of July 4th campers will learn some of the history surrounding the Woodvale Farm, decorate the farm for the holiday, and witness some amusing historical re-enactments by the staff.

Week 4: Gardening. Campers will learn about planting and maintaining a garden, plant their own seeds, and harvest some of the fruits and vegetables that are ready.

Week 5: Halloween. During Halloween week, campers will get to judge two outrageous costume contests, as well as dress up themselves on Friday! We will also carve jack-o’-lanterns out of watermelons!

Week 6: Animals. Experience firsthand what it takes to manage livestock, getting the chance to feed, groom, and care for many breeds of farm animals.

Week 7: Harvest. By August the gardens are reaching their peak of productivity and this week is dedicated to giving thanks for the bounty of the harvest.

Week 8: County Fair.  Participate in some traditional carnival games, as well as learn some of the techniques used when preparing an animal to be shown at the fair.  This theme occurs the week before the opening of the Washington County Fair, Rhode Island's last remaining county agricultural fair.
