W. Alton Jones Campus
Leaders In Training
Ages 14-15

Develop crucial leadership skills necessary to become a camp counselor.  The weeklong day program (9:00 AM to 3:30 PM Monday-Friday) includes an overnight campout on Thursday night. The main goal of the program is to foster leadership abilities among the participants that will lead them to be exceptional junior leaders and counselors in the future.  LITs will get the experience of working with most of the age groups at Alton Jones.  The week will be split between Earth Camp, Eco-Zone and Farm Camp.  The goal will be attained by shadowing experienced counselors and junior counselors, working together as a team on a camp service project, which you will design, and completing tasks that will foster a sense of responsibility such as dining hall supervision, working in the camp store, helping to manage recreational times with campers, etc.

Monday morning will be spent playing introductory games with your fellow teammates and hearing about what the week will entail.  At this time, the team work project will be discussed.  After lunch (bag lunch from home) you will have a behind the scenes tour of Alton Jones which will end at the lake where after a quick swim test you will be able to enjoy a dip before heading home for the day.

On Tuesday morning you will begin to find out what goes into a day in the life of the many counselors that work to run the programs at Alton Jones.  You will also help to supervise the lunch setup at the Earth Camp dining facilities.  You will end the afternoon with teambuilding games.

Wednesday and Thursday mornings will be spent observing different programs at Alton Jones.  During this observation time, you will assist in teaching some of the lessons and helping to manage camper groups.  Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, you will help campers get ready for swim time, supervise and run games during recreation time.  Thursday night will be the sleepover where you will sleep in tents in the recreation field at the farm.  You will attend the campfire for Earth Camp and perform a skit or song for the campers.  The night will end with roasting marshmallows.

On Friday morning you will get up early and head off on a field trip for a morning of fun and excitement.  You will return after lunch for a group wrap-up session.
Successful candidates in this program will be eligible for the CIT program or Junior Counselor program next year depending on age.  Completing the Leader in Training program can also look good on a resume.  Depending on camper registrations, there may be space available on the day camp shuttle although we may not know availability until just before the week.  Let us know if you are interested in riding the bus to camp.
