Teen X
Adventure Camp
Pick Your Own Adventure Ages
13-16
Experience
the best of Alton Jones multi-sport activities all wrapped
into one week. While our Expeditions foster small
group living/learning communities that travel independently,
Teen X Adventure Camp fosters a large group social and
activity setting where teens can network between groups and
get to know as many people as they want.

During the day you can pick from “The Adventure Buffet”, a menu
of activity choices based on what you want to do. Most of the
daytime activities will be limited to small groups of about
10. You will eat breakfast and dinner together in our dining
hall (lunches are packed out), play and hang out together in
the evenings, and sleep village-style in single sex
screen-house cottages. Each night will be spent sleeping in
the screen house cabins at Alton Jones.

Sunday
afternoon is spent checking in, settling into your screen
house, getting to know your bunk-mates and leaders, and having
a swim check at the lake. After eating a hot meal at the
Poor Farm picnic area there will be an all-group orientation
to the programs and rules followed by an all camp game and an
opening campfire by the barn. After that it's time for
lights out.

Each
day for the rest of the week you will choose your adventures.
Some activities may be offered twice, while other activities
will be offered once during the week. Because there is
so much to do and so little time you will want to choose your
activities wisely since time won’t allow you to do
everything that’s offered.
Activity options will include rock climbing, surfing, tree climbing, canoeing, kayaking, sailing,
hiking, sea kayaking, laser tag, and
swimming. Some of the activities will take place on the
W. Alton Jones Campus property, while others will take place
off-site within a one-hour drive.

To break up the
week, there will also be a Teen Versus WAJ Team Challenge adventure race that
will involve all of the Adventure Camp participants. Each
group will have the opportunity to earn points at a series of
stations in a great race challenge. The goal is for the
teens to earn enough points to defeat WAJ (W. Alton Jones) by
the end of the day.

Each evening everyone will return to Alton Jones for dinner,
games, use of the bathhouse facilities, and to sleep at the
Poor Farm Base Camp. You will stay in a screen house
cabin with bunk beds and use a nearby bathhouse with showers and
flush toilets. Most meals will be eaten at the camp dining hall
except for lunches which will be packed out.

In preparing for your week, you may want to spend some
time thinking about why you chose the Teen X Adventure Camp and what you
hope to get out of this experience. Everyone is expected to
do their best, participate fully, encourage each other, and
help out with chores on a rotating basis such as cooking and
cleaning. Come
with an open mind and a sense of adventure. If you have never done some of the
activities, relax. Experience is not a requirement,
but a positive, cooperative attitude and a willingness to have fun while
learning is!
