Surfing, Beach and Sailing Multi-Sport
Ages 14-17
Wave
Chasers is a surfing, beach, and sailing adventure for teens,
ages 14-17. Two trained expedition leaders will lead a maximum
of ten participants on this adventure. If you like sun,
sand, and surf this could be the adventure for you!
Check
in for Wave Chasers,
will begin at 2:00 on Sunday. We’ll move into our temporary
lodgings, meet our group mates and counselors, play some group
games, and have and dinner and a campfire.
On
Monday, our week of surfing will begin at Town Beach in
Narragansett, RI with introductory surfing lessons. Although we will be building our proficiency at surfing,
at any time during the trip, we’ll be free to use boogie
boards, play in the waves, or just lounge on the beach and
catch some sun. Lunch on Monday will be taken on the beach so
that we can continue surfing in the afternoon. You’ll return
to Alton Jones for some evening activities.
On
Tuesday, we’ll travel by 15-passenger van to Hampton Beach,
NH for some additional guided surf lessons. We will continue
to learn and study the intricacies of the ocean such as how
waves are created, and how they are affected by winds, tides,
and ocean floor contours. If there are no waves, no worries!
Flat water provides the perfect conditions to try
stand-up-paddle-boarding. We will explore some of the nooks
and crannies of the Granite State’s coastline. After each
full day on the beach, we’ll retire to a nearby campground
to set up a base camp and cook meals as a group.
On Thursday, we’ll head
back to Rhode Island to wrap up our week of surfing with a day
at Newport’s Second Beach, where Rhode Island Waves are
often slightly bigger. After testing our new skills for the
day, and exploring the Purgatory Chasm rock formation, we’ll
head back to Alton Jones for dinner and a hot shower.
Before
we leave on Friday, we’ll head to Newport for a half-day of
sailing in Narragansett Bay with Sail Newport. Afterwards,
we’ll head back to camp for some closing activities and a
pizza lunch. Checkout is at 3:00 on Friday.
