More Details:
Are you ready for winter adventure?
If you are 9-13 years old and looking for some school vacation excitement, come to
February School Vacation Camp at the W. Alton Jones
Campus!
February School Vacation Camp is all about fun, friendship, outdoor adventure, and
learning about the environment. It is a sleepover camp that
provides a variety of day and night experiences focusing on the winter
environment. We offer you an opportunity to have fun making new
friends, learning about winter, and exploring new and beautiful
places.
With
2,300 acres of forests, ponds, and farmland, the W. Alton Jones Campus
offers a big backyard that’s perfect for adventure, exploration,
learning, and fun! We
have a 75-acre lake, extensive hiking trails, and lots of streams and
ponds. Our ability to
blend education with camp fun makes learning seem like a vacation. Our fun-filled, activities-based programs are designed with the
camper in mind.
As great as our
outdoors are, the indoors at the Environmental Education Center are
equally inviting. The
wood and glass main lodge with fieldstone fireplaces and meeting rooms
is designed for year-round comfort. Overnight accommodations offer heated cabins with cozy pine
bunk beds, clean restrooms, and hot showers. Acres of recreation fields allow plenty of space for pick-up
games of volleyball, bocce, 4-square, kickball, soccer, or just
hanging out with new friends.
At the end of a busy
day outdoors, our dining hall is the ideal place to gather for a warm,
home-cooked meal. Meals
are family style, kid-friendly, and nutritionally balanced. Whether it’s a hot breakfast, a hearty lunch, or a
full-course dinner, hunger is rarely an issue at Alton Jones.
What will you do during Winter Camp?
Walk beneath the stars as
the winter constellations come to life.
Investigate, skate, and play games on one of
our icy ponds.
Nestle up to a cozy fire to
enjoy marshmallows and share good times.
Tap trees for maple syrup
and taste the finished product.
Explore the forest on snowshoes and follow wildlife
tracks.
Ride a sled down one of our
hilly fields.
Other activities
include Winter Games, S’mores By the Fire, Maple Sugar Taste Test,
Snowball Target Practice, Pirate Dinner, Backward Lunch, Winter Arts and Crafts, Broom
Ball On Ice, Snow Sculpture Contest, and of course, Winter Ecology!
The
Environmental Education Center serves year-round as an outdoor
school for an average of 9,000 students and campers each year
providing experiences with nature as the subject, classroom, and
teacher.
Campers are separated into co-ed field groups
by age for daytime activities and sleep in single-sex cabins. Camp begins with check-in on Tuesday morning at 8:30 and ends
with a family program Friday afternoon at 2:00 followed by checkout at
2:30 PM. At Alton Jones
there is no shortage of great activities no matter what the
weather brings. Ice-skating,
snowshoeing, sledding, and other activities requiring snow and ice are
weather dependent.
