Grants for Visiting Scholars
The URI Center for the Humanities announces the availability of funds for bringing scholarly speakers in the humanities to the URI campus. The Center limits its funding to events that are free and open to the public, and preference for funding is given to those events involving students in one or more classes. Funding from the Center for each event is limited to $600 unless students in more than one class are required to attend. Sponsors of events involving students in two or more classes may request up to $1,000 for the event. The decision to fund a particular scholar’s visit is based upon the following criteria: the value of the event for enhancing the humanities at URI and its surrounding community, the number of students/courses involved with the event, the importance of the visiting scholar to course content (if applicable), the availability of funding, and the clarity of the proposal. Additionally, the Center looks for some funding sponsorship from the home department and related departments and programs.
Individuals or groups requesting Center funds are encouraged to consult with the Business Office in the College of Arts & Sciences about their spending plan prior to submission of their proposal. Great care must be taken to insure that expenditures are made consistent with University policies & procedures.
