Purpose To establish a remote server site for course assignments.
The assignment: Set up an individual course folder and home page on the course server. This folder and its contents will be your course web site, the "remote root folder" for all work for the course. You will be shown how to do this, and how to communicate with the server via ftp (file transfer protocol). You will have an exclusive user name and password, and you will have full rights to the folder with the instructor (i.e., you may create, modify, delete, read, or execute any file you put in this folder). It will be accessible through the www (read, execute). Your instructor will also have full rights to the folder; you will regularly use this folder/site to complete assignments, to facilitate working on projects from the lab, home, or office, and to collaborate with the instructor.
Grading: This assignment is worth 5 points (toward the 100 possible in the course). Each of the following are required; each is worth 1 point. One point will be deducted if the assignment is not done by the due date.
- You can "get" or "put" the page from a local computer using ftp
- You can share the page on the www by giving someone its URL
- It has your name on it.
- It is named index.php
- It has a brief note of your choice written using PHP echo.
