How Far Can You Carry a Discussion?

Purpose: Reflection on the intent of the Discussion and just what is permissible.

You will be given a published journal article that features an extensive discussion section, one that is equal in length to the rest of the entire paper. You are asked to review Day's chapter on Discussion and to critique the discussion section of the paper you have been given. In one paragraph, summarize which of Day's points the discussion section fulfills and which, if any, it does not. Given the length and complexity of the example discussion, write a second paragraph in which you present your personal views as to whether the author has been excessive in bringing in new materials, etc., (including new figures and tables, and a appendix).

Due: Complete the assignment by Friday so that you are prepared to contribute to a class discussion.
