Com. 337.03 and 460.1 and .2 - Spring semester 2003
Professor Agnes G. Doody, Ph.D.
Class
participation
The learning process is indeed
synergistic: that synergy develops as both the faculty member and the students
engage in intellectual sharing and intellectual stimulation in the classroom.
To make that synergy really soar, it's important that both faculty and students
"give it their all." As you will note in your syllabus, class participation
counts for a percentage of your final grade. What I'm asking you to do is
to become more aware of both the quality and the quantity of your class participation
by stepping back and evaluating it. You will do that twice this semester:
just before mid-semester, due date 4 March, and then again at the end of the semester, due date
1 May.
For students in Com. 460, you
will be graded as follows: quizzes = 20%; journal entries = 40%; executive
summaries and other written papers = 25%; class participation = 15%. Please note this is a correction of
grading criteria that appear in your syllabus.
Using the format below,
reflect upon your involvement with the intellectual dynamics of your course,
evaluate the results of your inflection and respond.
