Research Interests: Dr. Anderson's major research interests are rhetorical criticism and conflict intervention. Her rhetorical criticism has focused on such diverse American figures as Thomas Jefferson, Mother Jones and Bella Abzug. In 1984 she published her book OUTSPOKEN WOMEN: SPEECHES BY AMERICAN WOMEN REFORMERS, 1635-1935, one of the earliest collections of speeches by American women. In recent years most of her research has focused on conflict intervention, especially communication strategies for dealing with difficult people in diverse conflict environments.

Dr. Anderson joined URI in 1970 and retired in June, 2000. She served as Department Chairperson prior to Dr. Wood. Her teaching interests include rhetorical criticism, communication theory and communication and conflict intervention.
