Your Research Hypothesis
This
assignment requires you to create a researchable hypothesis for this semester.
Step 1: Conceptually define two variables. A conceptual definition can come from
three places: a definition found
in reference material, such as a dictionary, text book or journal article;
modification of a definition of a parallel concept found in reference material;
or you can make it up.
a) Variables must take on at least three variables (e.g. you can't use smoker/nonsmoker or male/female)
b) You must
identify the sampling unit. (e.g., people, movies, love letters, newspapers)
c) You must
describe how you could measure each variable
(e.g. a question, an
observational category, a manipulation)
d) At least one of the variables must be a
communication variable
Step 2:
Write your hypothesis using the guidelines from class
a)
Indicate whether it is a one-tailed or a two-tailed hypothesis
b) Indicate whether you are using the comparative form, the relationship form or an alternative wording.
