Research Interests:
  Dr. Reed’s Primary research interests are in media studies and in social and cultural studies of science and technology.  She is interested in areas such as media theory and criticism, computer-mediated-communication, gender and technology, and institutional approaches to the study of media.  She has published essays that focus on the history, culture, and politics of “old” and “new” media in journals and books such as Critical Studies in Media Communication, Discourse, The Howard Journal of Communications, and the Routledge International Encyclopedia of Women: Global Women’s Issues and Knowledge.

Dr. Reed joined the Department of Communication Studies in the fall of 2000 after completing her Ph.D. at the University of Illinois in Communications Research.  Her teaching interests include “The Social and Cultural Aspects of Media and New Communication Technologies,” and “New Media and Society.”
