Kedan Crosby is the 2009 Communication Studies Scholar/Athlete Award Recipient. Kedan was a unique addition to not only the URI academic community, but also to the student athlete community. In 2004 he was recruited from Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean to play soccer at URI on a four-year scholarship.
During his time at URI, Kedan has managed to “balance the demands ” of being a student athlete and “really think about what he was learning and apply it to his life”, according to his professor and advisor, Dr. Rachel Dicioccio.
With three strong years of collegiate soccer under his belt, Kedan was nominated as the team co-captain of the men’s soccer team in the fall. In addition to starting every game his senior year and playing an enormous role in winning close games, he was also named to the 2008 Atlantic 10 All-Conference Second Team.
Dr. Dicioccio believes that “one of the greatest obstacles of being a student athlete is finding the balance between the role of a scholar and athlete, while enduring the physical & emotional strain". She also states, “I am sad to see him leave, but I know he will go on to be something great”.
Upon graduation, Kedan hopes to advance his soccer career by joining a US or European professional team. He aspires to a career as a sports journalist.
