Section 1. Multiculturalism: Theory and Practice. 3cr., Dr. Derbyshire. This course examines the process of creating differences and similarities among people based on categories of race, gender, sexual identity, social class, and implications for our everyday lives.
Section 2. Family Communication. 3cr., Dr. Dicioccio. The purpose of the course is to increase student's knowledge of interpersonal communication within the context of family relationships. The course examines the theoretical perspectives of family process as well as the different types of family relationships as they are defined by communication.
Section 3. Dynamics of Communication Marketing. 3cr., Alofsin. This course examines integrating marketing and advertising initiatives with public relations campaigns and projects. Emphasis will be placed on defining key channels of communication, examining the separate and united stengths of marketing, advertising, and public relations, and developing the skills necessary to create communication internally and externally.
Section 4. Cultural Conflict in Global Perspective. 3cr. DeMoranville. This course will survey a global range of case studies in social conflict rooted in cultural difference. Emphasis will be on the challenges faced by fourth world, indigenous groups in developing countries. Conflicts over land, access to and use of natural resources, rights of cultural and/or religious expression, and economic opportunities and/or exploitation will be explored.
Section 5. Client-side Web Development. 3cr., Dr. Logan. The course explores principles and techniques designed to help students use web development as an effective communication tool. You will learn principles and techniques for client-side programming using XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, and web graphics. Explores the relationship between theory and research and investigates emerging theories and applications of theory to emerging forms of communication.
This course provides a detailed exploration of the research and theory dealing with communication in the context of interpersonal relationships from a social science perspective. The course will cover several different topics including gender, aggression, deception, disclosure, marriage, and friends.
This course will examine the complex relationships between culture, language, and performance in communication. Specifically, the course will examine the theory, behavior, practice, and criticism of culture from aesthetic and sociocultural perspectives with an emphasis on contemporary research in language, culture studies, and performance studies.
