Students wishing to leave the University of Rhode Island have two options: Withdrawal or Leave of Absence.
Below is a guide for how to choose the right option for you.
| Withdrawal | Leave of Absence |
| Students who do not plan to return to URI | Students who plan to leave the University for a period of one year or less, and then return |
| Students who plan to leave the University for more than one year | Students who need to take one or two semesters off for medical or personal reasons, and then return |
| Students who plan to transfer to another institution | Students who are leaving the University and are not sure if they want to return, but want to leave this option open for up to one year |
Step 1: First, we strongly suggest you make an appointment with your academic dean or your academic advisor to discuss this process. Important: be sure to contact Enrollment Services if you have any financial aid or questions about your billing status.
Step 2: Once you have met with an advisor, choose Withdrawal or Leave process. Fill out form for Leave of Absence only, which requires a Dean’s signature. Withdrawals do not require a Dean’s signature.
Step 3: Go online to e-Campus and fill-out the necessary on-line form. Home > URI Student Services> Leaves> submit withdrawal or leave of absence
Step 4: Remember, we are here to help with any future questions you might have and are here to assist you should you want to return. Please do not hesitate to call your academic dean's office for assistance. Many students take leaves and return months to years later to successfully complete their degrees. We wish you the very best.
