Assignment: Firms

You are to answer one of the following questions. 

1. In the book The Corporation the authors take a very interesting approach to their analysis of firms. They begin with the assumption that the law gives the corporation the rights of an individual, and then suggest they analyze the corporation to see what type of person the firm would be. You are to read the chapter Democracy Ltd (Sakai Online Readings) from the book and relate what the authors' say with what we have talked about and what is going on in the business / political world these days.

2. Levit asks the question "Why do drug dealers live with their moms?" (Sakai Online Readings) in his book Freakonomics, and I want to know the answer. What message is there in that story for you as you begin to think about entering the labor market? Please answer these questions and relate it to some of the concepts we look at in the input unit.

3. What can we learn about the functioning of markets and discrimination from baseball? To get an idea of how you might, you should read an article about Billy Beane by Hakes & Sauer, "An economic evaluation of the moneyball hypothesis." (Sakai Online Readings) What was the secret behind Monyball and how did it relate to "probems" with the market for baseball players? Please answer these questions and relate it to some of the concepts we look at in the input unit.
