What I did with my summer vacation |
Congrats to Karolina Wiatrowska, Meghan Skira and Rich Ryan. Karolina is heading to graduate school while Meghan and Rich have recently received awards for the upcoming summer and will have lots to write in the "what I did with my summer vacation" essays when they return next semester.
Karolina will be leaving us soon, but she will not be going far. It turns out that Karolina's studies in the BS program only whetted her appetite for economics, so she decided to take the next step - and it is a big one. Karolina was accepted into NYU's graduate program in economics, one of the nation's best programs, where she plans to work in the area of international economics. We wish her the best this summer as she prepares for grad school.
Meghan will be heading south for the summer after having won a NSF Undergraduate Research Experience Award in the Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences at the Andrew Young School, Georgia State University, Atlanta. While in Atlanta Meghan will be working in the International Studies Program on fiscal issues in South Africa - and maybe she'll get some on-site travel experiences. Information about the program can be found at their web site. Meghan also received the Financial Executives International Academic Award for this year.
Rich, on the other hand, had an interesting choice to make this summer. One option was to head west for the summer for a Math NSF grant in Game Theory at the University of Illinois (web site ), but Rich turned that offer down to head north to work at the Boston Fed. Rich, who arrived at URI with aspirations for a career at the Fed, could not pass on the opportunity to work with the behavioral economist Dr. Stephan Meier on a project where they will be trying to answer the question of why some people do not have bank accounts.
