The Phi Beta Kappa Society
is an academic honor society with chapters on more than 250 campuses
across the United States. The Beta of Rhode Island chapter is based
at the University of Rhode Island.
Requirements for membership
Juniors and Seniors may be
invited to join Phi Beta Kappa if they satisfy certain
scholarly qualifications.
Chapter news
- A public forum on the 2011 Nobel Prize in Economics, featuring
talks by Prof. Bret Anderson and Prof. Liam Malloy, will be held
Nov. 2, 4:00-5:00 pm, 101 Gilbreth Hall, 2 East Alumni Ave., Kingston.
- The chapter's most recent initiation meeting—held on
April 29, 2011—was addressed by Dr. Donald
H. DeHayes, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, and
by Dr. Navindra Seeram, Professor of Pharmacognosy.
- A public lecture on "Paradise Lost in Our Time" was given by
Dr. Paul Alpers on April 14, 2011. Dr. Alpers is Class of 1942 Professor of
English Emeritus at the University of California (Berkeley) and
Professor-In-Residence at Smith College.
- A public forum on the 2010 Nobel Prize in Economics, featuring a
talk by Dr. Simona Trandafir, was held on Nov. 22, 2010.
