Find
a book on the selection of colleges, for example Peterson's guide.
These can usually be found at the reference desk of almost any
public library. There is a
host of data about specific colleges and universities in these
manuals—tuition, enrollment, faculty student
ratios, average SAT scores, etc.
Your
task is to examine a relationship that may exist.
For example, you might think that room and board fees are related
to the size of the college (don't use this example.)
Using data from at least 20 different schools, prepare a one to
two page report on the variables as well as the relationship between
them. Your report, should
contain some descriptive statistics on the variables in the
relationship, as well as the results of a least squares estimate of the
relationship. You must use at least two right hand side variables, one
of which must be a continuous variable and one of which must be a dummy
variable.
The report should
be structured in three parts. First,
describe the relationship you believe exists between the variables.
Secondly, describe the data and your statistical results.
Finally, your conclusion about whether or not the relationship
exists.
