We're
back. The Department's traveling road show is finally over - or at least
mostly over. As you will recall, in January 2001 the Department returned
from intercession to find Chafee had been closed and the Department had to leave
the penthouse suites that had called home since Rick Sabatino orchestrated the
move in the 1970s. We had to
vacate the space and our fearless leaders, Yngve Ramstad
and Linda Gray, led an exodus of most of the faculty to
Ballentine Hall that the College
of Business had recently "evacuated." Art Mead ended up in the
basement of Carlotti where his 8th floor panoramic view of South County was
replaced by a clear-story, while John Burkett ended up in Ranger Hall and Ric
McIntyre found refuge in the Honors Department in Lippit Hall. It turned out to be only a short stay
in Ballentine, however, and by
that summer the refugees in the library were on the move again. This this time
it off to the second floor
of the Library into little cubicles that made those Chafee offices look spacious.
Fortunately, the journey is now over. In the summer of
2002 Chafee reopened and the Department moved home and reoccupied those
penthouse suites.
