RB Reaves’s research and teaching commitment has been to the examination of some of the “classic texts” of British literature, especially those of the eighteenth century. His research and publications have dealt with Swift, Defoe, and also with twentieth century writers Dorothy Sayers and George Orwell. Co-directing The URI in England summer program was a decade-long commitment.
Satire and the rise of the novel have been a particular emphasis in his graduate teaching.
His undergraduate teaching is much broader with courses in world literature, the British surveys, introduction to poetry, and the Bible as literature.
Recently he has been developing his long- time interest in European and American film. His courses in the film adaptation of Shakespeare and the genre capstone have examined transformation of literary texts into cinematic texts.
