Roy Bergstrom is a Lead Information Technologist in the University of Rhode Island's Media and Technology Services Department (MTS). He administers and maintains the Student Technology Assistant Program which provides student help to faculty who are increasing or enhancing the use of film/videos, 3D animations and simulations, 3D games, and interactive websites in their curriculum and/or classroom. The program includes the Student Technology Assistants who provide support for the creation of digital materials to be used within the curriculum.
He is also in charge of the Digital Production Resource Center which is comprehensive production center designed to meet the need for creation of digital instructional materials for the classroom. The facility allows educators and researchers to produce professional quality film/videos, 3D animations and simulations, 3D games, and interactive websites that are available to students through a variety of media and web-based teaching tools.
In addition to being Program Director of the Belize, Central America, URI International Study Abroad program, Roy has taught Study Abroad Film/Media courses in Italy and Cape Verde, Africa. Students enrolled in these FLM445 Advanced Topics in Documentary Film Making use digital video and audio equipment to document their experience of such diverse settings as tropical rainforests, ancient Maya or Greco Roman ruins, snorkeling on the Earth's second largest coral barrier reef, fishing communities, the colonial slave trade, and a wide variety of cultural settings. The course emphasizes developing documentary filmmaking skills through researching themes relating to environmental/economic sustainability, ecotourism, and a wide range of social/political issues.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Resource Science and a Master of Arts in Education degrees from the University of Rhode Island. Roy is presently enrolled in a (M.M.A.) Master of Marine Affairs program at the University of Rhode Island.
