Film Media Program Film Festivals VISUALIZATIONS Every spring, College of Arts & Sciences holds its annual VISUALIZATIONS Film Festival competition. Undergraduate students interested in film or video are strongly encouraged to enter. Winners are recognized and awarded cash prizes for their achievements. The Festival comprises an awards ceremony and two nights of film screenings, April 23th and 24th on the Kingston campus. In past Festivals, many talented students have screened a diverse and entertaining array of films and videos at VISUALIZATIONS, and this year’s Festival will continue to present the audience with the best efforts of URI’s student filmmakers. Rhode Island International Film Festival Now in its twelfth year, the Rhode Island International Film Festival™, (RIIFF) will take place August 5-10, 2008. In its brief life span, the Festival has become a leading juried competition showcase for international independent filmmakers and their work. In 2007, RIIFF screened 320 titles in six days to large and appreciative crowds. The Festival had 5 sell-outs and is recognized within the industry as the largest festival in New England. Providence French Film Festival From February 21st to March 2nd, at the Cable Car cinema in Providence, you will be able to watch several French films. Tickets are available on the day of the showing beginning at 11AM. General admission is 8$, and 45$ for 8 general admission tickets (a saving of 24 dollars). Studebnt admission is 6$, and 34$ for 8 student tickets (a savings of 12 dollars). This festival is sponsored in part by the Languages department of Brown University. Columbia University National Undergraduate Film Festival CUNUFF is a film festival hosted by Columbia University open to all undergraduate film makers. The event will be held on the Columbia University campus, featuring ten student films chosen for their distinction and excellence from a pool of submissions from across the country. A selected group of professionals who are well-established in the filmmaking industry will judge the films. The ten awards offered will be accompanied by beautiful glass statuettes denoting achievement, and four awards will include cash prizes. The film festival will be in late March, where the finalists' films will be screened at Columbia's Roone Arledge Cinema. Films of all genres are accepted. Click here for CUNUFF.
Ivy Film Festival The Ivy Film Festival encourages the creative efforts of undergraduate and graduate student filmmakers by acting as a quality venue for their work and by creating opportunities to learn from one another and talented professionals. The festival strives to garner recognition for student filmmakers by means of a panel of celebrity judges including: directors, producers, writers, and agents who will view the top films from the festival.
