Film Media Program

Bachelor of Arts

The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Film Media is an interdisciplinary program offering a balance of practical experience in production and technique with emphasis on film media history, criticism and theory. The curriculum reflects the dynamic and diverse nature of this field: the expanding and often overlapping technologies involved in the production of moving images (filmic, digital, and/or cybernetic); the broadening and globalization of their cultural and aesthetic contexts (where cinematic practices extend into television video games, computer imagery, and virtual reality); and the increasingly cross-disciplinary nature of the theoretical responses to these developments. A wide range of courses is available to the film media student—courses which examine the historical, theoretical and technological approaches to the study of the moving image.

Film Media Opportunities

This program aims to prepare the film media student for careers in such areas as: film and television production and distribution; advertising, marketing and public relations; and, media/technical writing. Graduates of this program could also continue with graduate studies, in either a production oriented program (an M.F.A.) or in a master’s or doctoral program in film/media studies.
