The Fred Joyal Best-of-Festival Prize: Every year, Festival sponsor and benefactor Fred Joyal (URI ’79) selects one film for the Best-of-Festival Prize from the pool of 1st Place winners. This award is intended to recognize excellence and outstanding achievement in filmmaking. This year, the winner of the Best-of-Festival Prize will receive an additional $100 cash award and a scholarship to the SciptBiz Screenwriting Class to be held at the 2006 Rhode Island International Film Festival (RIIFF) in Providence, RI this August.
The Dean’s Choice Award: This award is chosen and awarded each year by Dean Winifred Brownell to the student(s) with the most interesting film within the pool of 2nd place, 3rd place, and Honorable Mention winners. The prize of an additional $100 is intended to recognize creative excellence and artistic achievement in filmmaking.
All 1st Place films will be eligible for a special screening at the 2006 RIIFF.
This year's featured guest artist is RI filmmaker Cherry Arnold, critically acclaimed director of the film Buddy, a feature documentary that chronicles the life of former Providence mayor Vincent "Buddy" Cianci. Ms. Arnold will be showing a clip from her documentary and giving a brief presentation during the Thursday evenint (April 27th) event. (more)
