Mary Healey, Visiting Assistant Professor (Joint appointment: Film Media, Com Studies) studied Television Production and Mass Communication at Emerson College (M.A. '94). At URI Healey developed and teaches courses in Documentary Pre-production (COM 341) and Production (COM342). Both undergraduate courses require students to research and develop their own documentary projects. A wide range of documentary films and approaches to documentary filmmaking are studied in-depth.
Healey also teaches the introductory Film Studies course, Film 101. She has produced, written and directed a variety of documentary films. Her latest Independent film Holy Water-Gate received a 2004 CINE Golden Eagle Award for excellence in investigative journalism, and Best Documentary at the Rhode Island International Film Festival. The film broadcast in 2005 on SHOWTIME NETWORKS, CBC Canada, SBS Australia, TVE Spain, DR DENMARK and SSR/TSI - Swiss Italian Television. It is currently under consideration for broadcasts in Germany, France, Ireland, Finland and New Zealand. She has also worked on a variety of animated films for commercial television for Olive Jar Animation, Boston as well as a developed and directed vast range of mulitmedia projects for the Cancer Prevention Research Center at URI and PROCHANGE Behavior Systems.
