Catherine M. Sama is Associate Professor of Italian and Film Studies at URI.

She teaches the Film Studies elective course, Italian Cinema (ITL 315), which is a broad introduction to Italian cinematic works from the Neorealist era to the present day. She is a scholar of 18th-century Venetian women writers and artists and has recently published a literary biography/anthology of texts by Elisabetta Caminer Turra (1751-96), Selected Writings of an
Eighteenth-Century Venetian Woman of Letters (University of Chicago Press, 2003).
