Fred Joyal graduated from URI in 1979 and headed out to Los Angeles to work in advertising. In 1986 he started 1-800-DENTIST, which has grown to be become a nationally recognized brand and the largest referral service of its kind in the United States, with approximately 250 employees. Fred is now Vice Chairman and spokesperson for the company, and has written over 200 commercials and lectured at trade shows, conferences and universities across the country.
Fred also co-created and sponsored Visualizations, the film festival at URI, which helped Film Media become a major at the University. Fred was given an Honorary Doctorate by the University in 2006.
