2013
Teaching, Research, Advising, Mentoring, and Administrative Awards
Students, faculty, and staff are invited to nominate candidates from the College of Arts & Sciences for the awards listed below. Please submit one-page nominations to the Dean's Office in 257 Chafee or via email to Ashley Baron (abaron@uri.edu) by Monday, May 13, 2013. All nominations should include the name and contact information of the person nominating, the name of the nominee, the award category, and the reasons why this person should receive the award.
Teaching Awards
Students, faculty and staff are invited to nominate instructional personnel who excel in engaging students in learning. Two awards will be presented: one to a tenure track faculty member and one to either a full or part-time lecturer.
Research Award
Students, faculty and staff are invited to nominate faculty members who have established an outstanding record of accomplishments in research, scholarship and creative work.
Advising Award
Undergraduate students are invited to nominate faculty members who are outstanding undergraduate advisors. Please consider dedicated professionals who effectively advise students about undergraduate and graduate study and professional career paths.
Mentoring Award
Graduate students are invited to nominate graduate faculty members who are outstanding mentors and major professors. Please consider professors who set excellent examples by their own research, scholarship and creative work, who guide graduate students in their professional development, and who effectively mentor and prepare students for comprehensive examinations, theses and/or dissertation processes.
Administrative Awards
Students, faculty and staff are invited to nominate administrative support professionals and department chairs or program heads who provide outstanding and sustained support for the teaching, research, and service missions of the College. Two awards will be given: one to an administrative support professional and one to a department or program head.
All URI students who take the time to nominate candidates will be entered in a lottery for a gift certificate to the URI Bookstore. Each award recipient will receive $500 and will be recognized at the Fall 2013 holiday party of the College of Arts & Sciences.

"The Association of International Educators has recognized the University of Rhode Island as one of eight recipients of the 2011 Senator Paul Simon Awards for Campus Internationalization. The winners were chosen from a pool of 60 nominations.
"The award honors URI as "a leader in internationalizing its engineering curriculum and in creating a global environment for students through foreign language learning and connections to companies that are globally oriented." It also is a credit to URI President David M. Dooley's strategic objective to engage students in international research and education by providing them with increased opportunities to work and study abroad." (more)
