Reporting staff


Katie Almeida of Bristol, R.I., is a junior journalism major at the University of Rhode Island. She has had articles published in the Narragansett Bay Journal, 02835: The Jamestown Journal, and Mercury Courtney Anderson of Bristol, R.I., is a senior at the University of Rhode Island, where she is majoring in journalism and minoring in Spanish. She has written for East Bay Newspapers in Bristol and the Newport Daily News. Nat Binns is a senior Journalism major from Orwigsburg, Pa. He was the editor in chief of The Good Five Cent Cigar last year and has interned with the Newport Daily News and the North Kingstown Standard Times. Christian Clarke is a senior journalism major from Warwick, R.I. He is lead singer/lead guitarist with the local band AbSynthe and works with Half Head Promotions, which does publicity for numerous Rhode Island musicians, clubs and artists. Nicole Doucette is a junior at the University of Rhode Island, where she is majoring in journalism with a concentration in broadcast news. She also is working on a minor in English. Nicole hopes to land a summer internship at a New York television station. She is also the president of Alpha Chi Omega sorority.
Kyle Jarvis is a senior journalism major at URI. He expects to graduate in December 2005, at which point he hopes to serve in the Peace Corps, most likely teaching English as a secondary language. Originally from New Hampshire, he transferred to URI in 2003 after attending Keene State College in Keene, N.H. Kyle Kluth of Middletown, R.I., is a junior journalism major. He has Interned at KVH Industries in Middletown, where he wrote for the company newsletter and wrote press releases about company products. Peter Larrivee is a senior journalism major who grew up in Cranston and now lives in Hope Valley, R.I. He has worked for the URI student newspaper, The Good 5-Cent Cigar, and also writes fiction and comedy. Laura Markowski, a 21 year old from Bedminster, N.J., is a junior at the University of Rhode Island, with a major in journalism and minor in English. Last summer she interned at WBZ News Radio in Boston, where she accompanied reporters on assignments, conducted telephone interviews and edited soundbites.  She is in the process of acquiring a television internship in New York City for this summer. Laura enjoys photography, running and playing tennis. Hallie Overstreet is completing her senior year at URI and will return to her hometown, Ocean, N.J., after graduation.  She will receive a B.A. degree with a major in journalism and a minor in English.  Before pursuing a career in education, Overstreet will spend this summer camping across the United States.
Kevin Shalvey, a junior at URI, is majoring in Journalism. He is a managing editor at The Good Five Cent Cigar student newspaper and has free-lanced for the The Warwick Beacon, The Cranston Herald and The Wood River Press. Melissa Silver, originally from Sunapee, N.H., is a senior at the University of Rhode Island, where she is majoring in journalism with a minor in history. Corey DelBove Whittington is a 21-year-old senior from Leominster, Mass.He expects to graduate with a degree in journalism in May 2006. His work on this project was slowed by two concussions he received during ROTC exercises. Heather Zwain of the Township of Washington, N.J., is a senior at the University of Rhode Island, where she is majoring in journalism and minoring in Human Development and Family Studies.
