Greek Week Dance Competition filled Edwards Auditorium

Edwards Auditorium was completely full, and bordering on chaos, during the Greek Week Dance Competition at 7 p.m.

Before the event even began, a sound system piped in loud music as the brothers and sisters in the Greek system mingled and mixed like one big party, though with no visible source of alcohol.

Some people engaged in the fine tradition of sneaking in their friends, much to the irritation of the fire marshals, who watched the doors and turned away crashers.

Most of the patrons wore Greek Week slogans on their T-shirts, slogans such as "When you're this good, they sponsor you - Greek Week '05."

Ten minutes later, some semblance of order was established as the contest began.

One member of a fraternity was paired with one member of a sorority, and a duet was performed before a panel of judges.

A deafening round of cheers sounded with each pair as they were introduced and walked onto stage. Some danced strictly to hip hop and R&B; others performed with remixes of Pop and Rock&Roll.

Half an hour of well-rehearsed performances later, and intermission broke out. Throngs of people flooded the aisles, and oxygen was too rare for there to be fire concerns.

Soon enough, the panel of judges had chosen the winning pair, and everyone played musical chairs to get back into any seat they could find. At last, they announced the winners: Jon Blake of Sigma Delta Tau and Christina Markarian of Lambda Chi Alpha, whose fraternity and sorority letters now grace a board outside the Intrafraternal/Panehellenic Council offices.
