Late nights at Hope dining hall

Jaimie Kassheimer doesn't have much time to sleep. The junior animal sciences and technology major works two jobs and carries an 18-credit course load.

Kassheimer has worked nights since her freshman year at Hope dining hall, where she and other students cook and serve late-night snacks and sandwiches until 11:30 p.m.

³It's exhausting because I'm here until midnight,² said Kassheimer, who, along with her co-workers, is required to stay after closing and clean up.

Kassheimer works four nights a week, preparing deli sandwiches for students. Hope ³Late Night² offers hot meals, like chicken wings and chicken patties. Students also can order pizzas that come with a variety of specialty toppings.

However, the most popular night is Tuesday, when Hope serves the ³Walkabout.² This is a Hope original, and consists of chicken fingers, ranch dressing and hot sauces rolled up in a plain wrap.

Kassheimer said almost 200 students show up for ³Walkabout² nights; about 150 students will stroll through on a normal night.

Hope ³Late Night² runs from 9:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. from Monday through Thursday, but hot food is not served after 11 p.m. Students can use points, Ram Account or cash, but cannot use meals.
