'The Reserves' is spot for late-night studying -- and more
As Tuesday turns to Wednesday, the students remaining in the Library scamper toward the 24-hour study room known as "the Reserves."
To an outsider, the Reserves at this time of night might suggest a bunch of college students doing anything but studying. On this night, that was pretty accurate.
As I sat down in the middle of the room and spun around, observing the whole room, I couldn't believe my eyes and ears.
I saw students devouring day-old bagels and I heard young women talking as loudly as they possibly could about their plans for Thursday night. I also saw one student, who appeared to be somewhat studying, with his bare feet up on the table.

Other students who seemed to be studying simply were not. Some had their books open as they scrolled through their Mp3 players while others stared at their laptop screens.
"I just think students get a little out of control in here because it is the only place in the library where talking is acceptable," said pharmacy major Trevor Alexander.
As the clock ticked toward 1 a.m., many students and study groups began to wind down and get to business. To my left was a group of younger students studying for an anatomy exam and to my right was a group of older students discussing politics.
To all those parents who think they are wasting their money, you can relax. Many students, although extreme procrastinators, will go far to get their studying done before an exam. Whether aided by Red Bull, coffee or just plain determination, students are studying through the night in order to make it through college.
The Reserves remains a lifeline for many of these students, who might have loud roommates or other distractions in their dorms or houses down the line.
"Without the Reserves, I probably would have failed out," said accounting major Dan McCarthy. "This place has definitely saved me numerous times."
