The Journalism Department has been fortunate in recent years to attract several scholarships that help support students majoring in Journalism. These scholarships have been created by alumni of the program, by the families of former students and by other supporters of the university including Journalism faculty.
Each year the following scholarships are awarded to Journalism majors on the recommendation of the department’s faculty:
The Mary Jane Behrends Clark Journalism Scholarship supports students with financial need and good academic standing.
The Wilbur L. Doctor Endowment supports students with financial need, high academic achievement and plans for a future as a print or broadcast journalist.
The Benjamin & Lillian Fine Scholarship supports students with financial need with special consideration to students interested in reporting about education.
The Mary & Walter Gray Family Journalism Endowment supports students with financial need who show promise as broadcast journalists.
The Eric Kumpf Memorial Journalism & Political Science Scholarship supports students in both majors who have financial need and exhibit academic merit.
The Linda Lotridge Levin & Leonard Levin Journalism Scholarship supports students who achieve high academic standards and who have financial need.
The Bill Parillo Memorial Journalism Scholarship supports a junior or senior Journalism major with a preference given to those who plan a career in sports journalism.
The Rhode Island Media Group Journalism Scholarship supports students from Rhode Island based on academic merit and financial need.
The URI Journalism Student Scholarship provides an award to Journalism majors based on academic merit and financial need.
