Renewable Energy Club's evening program cut short by projector malfunction
As the time crept closer to 7 p.m., students began to gather in the all-purpose room of the Multicultural Center to await the showing of "Oil on Ice," a documentary film about the negative effects that may result from oil drilling in the Artic National Wildlife Refugee. Members of the university's Renewable Energy Club sponsored the showing.

Club member Rachel Sholly stood at a table located in the back of the room to hand out pamphlets that supplemented the film. The handouts, which included a description on how individuals can help save the refuge, were provided by the Defenders of Wildlife.
"We are showing this film to help people become more aware," Sholly said. "We are at a crucial point in its progress."
After attempting numerous times to start the film, Sholly was unable to detect the problem that was keeping the projector from functioning properly.
"We may have to watch a shorter film on this topic," she said, noting that the film itself may have been causing the malfunction.
Sholly apologized to the audience numerous times for the delay, and finally decided to ask a discussion question to keep people occupied while others attempted to fix the problem.
"So what is everyone doing for Earth Day?" Sholly asked. No one answered.
Unfortunately, no one was able to fix the projector, and the film was not rescheduled.
