PRS 340-Public Relations (3 credits) -- Principles and procedures in public relations: emphasis on role of the public relations practitioner as a specialist in communication; analysis of publications produced as a part of public relations. (Lecture/Lab format) Prerequisites: Junior standing and JOR 220 with a grade of C or better
Notes: This course is crosslisted with JOR 340. It is taught only in the Fall semester. Registration priority is given to students formally accepted into the PRS major. A few seats are reserved for Journalism majors, Public Relations minors and Journalism minors, all of whom register for JOR 340.
PRS 441-Public Relations Practices (3 credits) -- Practical application of traditional PR methods in solving problems in a variety of markets. Explores fundamental agency operations, client-agency realationships. Combines practical experience with individual projects, programs, and campaigns. (Practicum format) Prerequisite: PRS 340
Notes: This course is crosslisted with JOR 441. It is taught only in the Spring semester. Registration priority is given to PRS majors. A few seats are reserved for Journalism majors, Public Relations minors and Journalism minors, all of whom register for JOR 441.
PRS 491-Public Relations Internship (3 or 6 credits) -- Supervised experience in public relations. Requires a minimum of 120 hours (3 credits) or 240 hours (6 credits). Weekly class meeting. May be repeated; maximum of 6 credits allowed toward graduation. Prerequisites: PRS 340, 441, COM 306 and JOR 341. Permission of instructor and application required.
Notes: This class is offered Fall and Spring semesters and during the summer. Journalism majors and minors and Public Relations minors who wish internship experience in a PR setting should meet with the JOR 345 supervisor.
