Public Relations Minor

Students interested in a PR minor are advised that it is difficult to complete because of the limited availability of seats in the introductory PR course. The earlier one begins to plan for the minor, the better, but even that does not guarantee the program of study.

Journalism, Communications Studies and Marketing majors who wish to minor in Public Relations should follow the interdisiplinary curriculum outlined below. Students in other majors who are interested in Public Relations should contact Regina Bell in Communication Studies..

All PR minors must take one of the following Statistics courses:
STA 220 -- Statistics in Modern Society
STA 308 -- Introductory Statistics
STA 409 -- Statistical Methods in Research I
BAC 201-- Managerial Statistics

Communications Studies majors take the following courses:
JOR 220 -- Media Writing (pre: a WRT course with a grade of B or better)
JOR 340 -- Public Relations (pre: JOR 220 with a grade of C or better)
JOR 345 -- Internship (in Public Relations; pre: JOR 340)
BUS 365 (MKT 301) -- Marketing Principles
Two additional Marketing courses

Journalism majors take the following courses:
COM 210 -- Persuasion : The Rhetoric of Influence
COM 302 -- Advanced Public Speaking [pre: COM 202 (101)]
COM 351 (320) -- Oral Communication for Business and Professions
BUS 365 (MKT 301) -- Marketing Principles
Two additional Marketing courses

Marketing majors take the following courses:
