Instructor FAQ

1. How do I reserve the Independence Hall Screening Room?
Class use for the entire semester is scheduled by the Film Studies Department Chair. Occasional use of the room is scheduled through the web.

Reservations will not be taken by phone.  Although you may reserve the room before being trained in its use, your individualized access code will not be activated until you complete a training session.

You will receive an email confirmation or rejection of the reservation request. If this is your first use of the Screening Room, you must plan ahead. Two training sessions are required to have access to the room. These sessions must be scheduled 24 hours apart.

If the room request is refused, you may try appealing to your colleague for a room swap. However, most film classes are very video-dependent and another venue is difficult to locate.

2. How can I get trained on the equipment in the Screening Room?
Training is scheduled with the Supervisor, Language Learning Resource Center. The training consists of two sessions, the second of which must be scheduled at least 24 hours after the first.

3. What do I do if my card will not grant me access to my classroom?
For immediate access you can come to the LLRC in Independence 301 and a staff member will let you into your classroom.  To activate your card send an email to the LLRC Supervisor with your name and ID number.

4. What instructional equipment is available in Independence Hall?
Every room is equipped with an overhead projector and screen. Additional equipment may be checked out from Independence Hall Classroom Media Assistance in Room 301. A list of available equipment is found on the Independence Hall Equipment Check-out web page.

5. How do I reserve multimedia equipment for use in Independence Hall?
Multimedia equipment can be reserved through a web form. Please be sure to read the important directions about which web browsers work for which computers. More information available at the LLRC How to Page

6. What if I have a last minute requirement for multimedia equipment?
Stop by Independence CMA (Room 301) and ask what is available, we will accommodate you if we can. If our equipment is all reserved, you can then call Classroom Media Assistance in Chafee and see what is available there (401-874-4783).

7. Where do I report burnt out bulbs or damaged equipment or screens in the Independence Hall Classrooms?
To the Supervisor, Language Learning Resource Center.

8. Where can I get markers for the whiteboards in some of the Independence Hall classrooms?
A supply of dry erase markers are kept in Room 301. If the markers in your classroom don't work, please send a student up to 301 for a replacement.

9. The whiteboards are smeared and unusable, who cleans them anyway?
The janitors are supposed to clean the boards, but if the boards are inordinately dirty (can't be cleaned adequately with the eraser provided). Please send a student up to 301, we have special solvent which can be used on the boards with paper towels. PLEASE DO NOT USE THE SOLVENT WITH THE ERASERS--it will ruin the erasers permanently.
