Graphic Novels and Japanese Anime  @ The Island Free Library

 Synopsis:


Basically, the site design  reflects the purpose of the “marketing” of the graphic novel collection at the Island Free Library. I hope to promote the book selection through this virtual library so that the young adults “on Island” and “off Island” may see our selection online and chose to take a few out or at least go to some of the online sites I will be mentioning on the web page.


Who: Target audience is the Young Adult Population throughout the Island Free Library as well as (theoretically) members of the RI Library Network (CLAN).

Where:  The web page will be housed on the Island Free Library Web site which is currently under construction and theoretically will show the virtual library to anyone who views our web site . Most likely the virtual library I construct will remain on my web site until the management (the Director and the Board of Trustees) approve it for the public’s viewing.

When: July 30, 2004. The projects due date.

Why: It would be beneficial for the Young Adult Literature section to have such a format; since most young adults stay pretty much in their room and communicate by computer ; if they were to access the web page and then order the book by request through inter-library loan or through the CLAN system they would be able to get graphic novels online from the Island Free Library (as they can from Providence and other State libraries.) But the kids out here may actually stop by and take a closer look at the materials and actually come in more to use our facility by making them aware by the use of the computer as to what we have to offer them.  (i.e.) The virtual library displaying the graphic novel selection we have here at the library, as well as the Japanese Anime selection.


Short Term Goal: Have my e-mail address online so that kids could suggest books and anime they would like us to buy. Start a Teen advisory board, so that kids could get involved with the actual Graphic Novel and Anime web pages.

Long Term Goal:
My ultimate goal would be to put the site up someday (in real time) and to maintain it with the help of some volunteer students from the Block Island School.
