Past, Present and Future How have professional in library and information services appeared to others in the past? How do we appear now? How will we appear in the future? Below are a few characterizations of how we have, do or will look. All are linked to pages with larger of the same images. Use them for a basis of discussion on the bulletin board this week! Sorry about the quality of some of the pictures. Below is a website on "IMAGE AND THE LIBRARIAN: An Exploration of a Changing Profession" from which I found a couple of the pictures. You can see the originals of most of the pictures above in the following articles (The Curran article is also an interesting read!): IMAGE AND THE LIBRARIAN: An Exploration of a Changing Profession. http://home.earthlink.net/~cyberresearcher/ImageHomepage.htm Curran, C. (1987). Let's face it: Librarians are wimps. An observer offers the final word on the The Image. American Libraries, 18, 687. Wallace, L.K. (1989). The image- and what you can do about it in the Year of the Librarian. American Libraries, 20, 22-25. To see how librarians have been treated in the movies see: http://www.hollywoodlibrarian.com/.
