Selection Policy

Selection criteria are used to select individual items or small groups of items. Following are conventional criteria commonly used in selection:

  • Authority
  • Appropriateness
  • Accuracy or timeliness
  • Physical characteristics
  • Collection fit
  • Demand
  • Content
  • Special characteristics such as having features as indexes, bibliography, notes, prefaces, introductions, teacher guides, and interpretive materials.
