INTRODUCTION TO INFORMATION SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

Course Description

Introduction to the organization, retrieval and analysis of information, and the underlying technologies used to control the manipulation and dissemination of information in library and information settings.

Course Objectives

As a result of this course, you will:

  1. describe and discuss basic theories of information science. (GSLIS: 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 14, 19, 20; RIDE: 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10)*
  2. describe and discuss the basic components of a computer system. (GSLIS: 1, 5, 6; RIDE: 2, 5, 10)*
  3. discuss the effects of technology in handling information in library and information services. (GSLIS: 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 15, 19, 20; RIDE: 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10)*
  4. discuss communication theories and models and apply them in library and information services. (GSLIS: 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 14, 19, 20; RIDE: 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10)*
